ARTICLE 19 trains Kenyan journalists on their role as vanguards of devolution

ARTICLE19 in collaboration with the Media Council of Kenya trained 20 journalists from Kisumu County in Kenya on their roles as vanguards of devolution system of governance.

Among key areas that the journalists were trained on included their role in enabling access to information concerning operations of the county governments. The three day training is one of the many more to come within the month of February.The first of such training was doone in Machakos last week.Other similar trainings will be conducted in Nyeri and Mombasa. The training is funded by the Canadian government.

Article 19 Eastern Africa director Henry Maina called on the journalists to use the training to improve their reporting on matters pertaining to the devolution process in the country. ”It is critical that journalists play their role in ensuring that the public has access to information regarding the operation of the county governments. This training offers the journalists an opportunity to get the expertise that will help them improve in reporting matters of the devolution process of governance in the country” added Maina
