Back You are here: Home Kenya

Attacks and violence against journalists violate Article 33 of the Kenyan Constitution,  which guarantees freedom of expression. Attacks on journalists are also a violation of the international treaties ratified by Kenya, including Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Despite having a very progressive constitution, most of the old media laws have not been repealed. They continue to limit freedom of expression and some of them provide grounds for attacks on the media.

ARTICLE 19 is working in Kenya to ensure the safety and protection of journalists and is campaigning for freedom of expression and information.
